TIGER Side Event at the 5th AWW Dakar, Senegal

The TIGER initiative is featuring a side event at the 5th African Water Week, Dakar, Senegal on Wednesday, 28th May 2014.
The side event will discuss and develop together with African stakeholders the opportunities for improving Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) by exploiting the advantages of Earth Observation (EO) technology . the main topics are:
- Demonstration of an open-source Water Observation and Information Systems (WOIS) for monitoring, assessing and inventorying water resources in a cost-effective manner by EO data;
- Capacity building and training of African water authorities to fully exploit the observation capacity offered by the next generation of satellites
The side event will highlight the recent achievements of the TIGER initiative and its future activities in Africa. In particular EO solutions for IWRM developed in close collaboration with the following African water authorities will be presented: Nile Basin Initiative; Lake Chad Basin Commission; Volta Basin Authority; Zambezi Watercourse Commission, Department of Water Affairs South Africa; Ministry of Water, Namibia; Department of Water Affairs Zambia and MettelSat of DRC.
The TIGER initiative, founded by the European Space Agency in 2002, implements projects and capacity building activities dedicated to the use of space technology for water resource management in collaboration with AMCOW, African Water Facility, World Bank, UNDP Cap-Net, UNESCO-IHP and UN-ECA.
